William P. "Captain Dick" Marshall
Old-time carver

 
William Percy Marshall, the son of a waterman, was born in 1899 on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay in Deale, Maryland. Marshall worked as a waterman until 1937, when he joined the Maryland Conservation Dept. Marine Police. Marshall's boat was part of the oyster navy, charged with enforcing Maryland's oyster conservation laws.
